The Name — Kadigachalam
According to tradition, the name Kadigachalam is connected to the belief that the Lord gave darshan (divine vision) to the Saptarishi (seven sages) at kadigai time, and also to Prahlada in a peaceful (yoga) form. This is a traditional/religious account.
Anjaneya at Sholinghur
Anjaneya is referred to here as Siriya Thiruvadi. According to the temple tradition, Lord Anjaneya in the yoga stage helped King Indradyumna Maharaja slay the asura Nikumban and saved his kingdom. This event is said to have taken place on a Sunday, and every Sunday is therefore regarded as especially significant for worship of Siriya Thiruvadi. This is a traditional/religious account.
Worship Practices
- Devotees take a ritual bath in the Chakkra Theertham of the small hill and then worship the Lord.
- On Karthigai Sundays, devotees take a bath in the Chakkra Theertham and lie prostrate on its steps in prayer. It is believed by devotees that the Lord fulfils wishes through dreams on these occasions. This is a devotional belief.
