The Idol
The idol of Vishwaroopa Anjaneya Swamy was carved from a single granite stone specially selected for the purpose, under the guidance of the Kanchi Seers. The sculptor was M. Muthiah Sthapathi, awarded the title Silpa Kalamani, from Chennai — a specialist in granite idol carving according to the Shilpa Shastras. The idol took one year to complete and weighs approximately 55 tons.
The idol was carved near Chennai and transported to Nerul by road — a significant logistical undertaking given its size and weight.
Form and Description
Anjaneya stands on a lotus pedestal in a posture of reverence — hands folded in prayer, eyes in a meditative expression. He wears traditional ornaments:
- Kundalam (earrings)
- Keuryaha (armlet)
- Three kankanas (bangles)
- Thandai on his lotus feet
His lankulam (tail) rests on the ground, completing the image of a pious and devoted form of Anjaneya.
