This page covers the most important annual dates for Hanuman devotees — festivals, fasting days, and auspicious observances. TIME-SENSITIVE: Exact dates shift each year according to the Hindu lunar calendar. The month ranges given are approximate. Always confirm from a current panchang before planning travel or a special observance.
Every Week
- Tuesday (Mangalvar): Hanuman’s most sacred weekly day. Visit a temple, offer sindoor, recite the Chalisa. See also Mangalvar Vrat.
- Saturday (Shanivar): Also auspicious for Hanuman — associated with his protective role over Shani (Saturn). See Hanuman & Astrology for the full Saturn connection.
Annual Festivals
Hanuman Jayanti (March–April)
Hanuman’s birthday — the most important day of the year for his devotees. Falls on Purnima (full moon) of Chaitra month. Major temples across India hold overnight jagrans and special puja. Devotees recite the Hanuman Chalisa 108 times. Some observe a full day’s fast. Note: In South India (Karnataka, Tamil Nadu), Hanuman Jayanti falls on Margashirsha Amavasya (November–December) — a different scriptural tradition.

Ram Navami (March–April)
Lord Ram’s birthday — Navami (ninth day) of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra. As Ram’s foremost devotee, Hanuman is also honoured on this day. Many temples celebrate Ram-Hanuman together. In Ayodhya, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims converge for Ram Navami week.
Dussehra / Vijaya Dashami (September–October)
The day Ram defeated Ravana — as much Hanuman’s festival as Ram’s, for it was Hanuman who made the victory possible. Hanuman melas (fairs) are held across Rajasthan and North India on Dussehra. See the full context: Navratri & Hanuman.
Diwali (October–November)
The night Ram returned to Ayodhya — made possible entirely by Hanuman’s service. In many traditions, Hanuman puja is performed at midnight on Diwali. See: Diwali & Hanuman.
Shani Jayanti (May–June)
Saturn’s birthday (Jyeshtha Amavasya). Since Hanuman freed and pacifies Shani, this day carries special significance for Hanuman devotees seeking protection from Saturn’s influence. TRADITIONAL/BELIEF
Monthly Observance
Every Purnima (full moon) is auspicious for Hanuman, as he was born on a full moon. Lighting a diya and reciting the Chalisa on each Purnima is a widely observed monthly practice.
